About the free online course
Learning piano can feel overwhelming at first, but it does not have to be. This free online course is built to help you move from guessing at keys to truly understanding what you are playing, so practice becomes satisfying instead of confusing. You will develop the core habits that make progress visible: reading music with confidence, keeping steady time, and coordinating both hands without tension.
You will start by making sense of the staff and the landmarks that pianists rely on every day, then connect those symbols to real notes on the keyboard. As your reading improves, you will strengthen technique through simple finger-gym routines designed to build independence, control and comfort. Rhythm is treated as a practical skill, so you learn to count accurately, feel the pulse, and recognize how note values work in common time signatures.
Along the way you will train your ear to hear whether melodies move up or down, and you will practice playing in treble and bass clef so the grand staff stops looking like two separate worlds. The course steadily supports the transition from one-hand playing to hands together, helping you solve the most common beginner struggle: coordinating timing, fingering, and attention across both staves.
As you progress, you will work with musical expression and touch, exploring dynamics like forte and piano, articulation such as legato and staccato, and the way symbols guide phrasing. You will also gain practical theory that immediately supports your playing, including intervals, transposition basics, and how to think intervallically for stronger sight reading.
To round out your foundation, the course introduces chord playing in an approachable way: understanding triads, primary chords in common keys, chord inversions, and simple left-hand patterns that let you accompany melodies and lead sheets. By the end, you will be better equipped to learn new pieces independently, read more fluently, and enjoy the feeling of real music-making at the piano.
If you are returning to music after a break or starting from zero, this course provides a clear path with plenty of guided practice, so your skills grow lesson by lesson and your confidence grows with them. A certificate may be available depending on the platform settings, making it a practical option if you want to document your learning.
