Scientists do not normally reject a paradigm at the first anomaly. They initially investigate discrepancies as solvable puzzles. A crisis may develop when significant anomalies persist and a viable rival framework emerges.
Popper emphasized bold conjectures and attempted refutations, Kuhn analyzed normal science and paradigm revolutions, and Lakatos evaluated progressive or degenerating scientific research programmes.
