One of the main attractions of a bakery is the smell of fresh bread. That delicious aroma that fills the air and makes us feel at home. Now, imagine being able to make your own bread at home, with all the benefits of chia, a superfood known for its nutritional properties. Here is a detailed step-by-step guide to making chia bread.

Ingredients:

  • 500g whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons of chia
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 10g dry biological yeast
  • 300ml of warm water

Preparation:

First, mix the whole wheat flour and chia together in a large bowl. Make a hole in the middle and add the oil, salt and sugar. In a separate bowl, mix the yeast with the warm water and let sit for about 10 minutes, until it starts to foam.

Pour the yeast mixture into the flour hole and mix well. When the dough starts to form, use your hands to knead it until it becomes a soft, elastic ball. This should take about 10 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If it's too dry, add a little more water.

Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Once the dough has risen, preheat the oven to 200°C. While the oven is heating up, knead the dough again for about 5 minutes to remove any air bubbles. Form the dough into a loaf and place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and makes a hollow sound when tapped on the bottom. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Tips:

For a crispier bread, you can spray the dough with water before baking. This will create a harder crust. If you want a softer bread, you can brush the dough with olive oil or melted butter before baking.

Chia adds an interesting texture to bread, as well as being a great source of omega-3s, fiber, and protein. However, if you don't like chia, you can replace it with other seeds, such as sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds.

Baking bread at home can seem a little intimidating at first, but with a little practice, you'll find it to be a very simple and rewarding process. Plus, the smell of freshly baked bread in your own oven is simply unparalleled.

So the next time you're in the mood for some fresh bread, instead of heading to the bakery, why not try making your own? With this chia bread recipe, you can enjoy delicious and healthy bread made with your own hands.

Best of all, you can experiment with different types of flour, seeds, and other ingredients to create your own unique version of chia bread. So, put on your apron and start kneading!
