One of the most useful applications that comes pre-installed in all versions of Windows 11 is WordPad. This is a basic word processor that is more advanced than Notepad, but not as complete as Microsoft Word. In this section of our e-book, we will discuss how to use WordPad on Windows 11.
How to open WordPad
To open WordPad, click the Start button in the bottom left corner of the screen and type "WordPad" in the search bar. Click the WordPad icon that appears in the search results to open the application.
WordPad User Interface
When you open WordPad, you will see a simple and intuitive user interface. At the top of the screen is a toolbar with several options, including File, Home, and View. The File option allows you to create new documents, open existing documents, save and print documents. The Home option contains various text formatting tools such as bold, italics, underline, font colors, font sizes, and more. The View option allows you to change the page layout, show or hide the ruler, and set zoom options.
Creating and saving documents
To create a new document, click File > New. This will open a new WordPad window where you can start typing your text. When you're done typing, click File > Save to save your document. You can choose where you want to save the file and you can give the file a name. WordPad saves documents as .rtf files by default, but you can also choose to save as .txt, .docx, .odt, and other file formats.
Formatting text
WordPad offers several text formatting options. To format text, first select the text you want to format, then choose the desired formatting option from the Home toolbar. For example, to make text bold, select the text and click the B icon in the toolbar. Likewise, you can change the font color, font size, text alignment, and more.
Inserting images and drawings
WordPad also allows you to insert images and drawings into your documents. To insert an image, click Insert > Image and choose the image you want to insert. The image will be inserted at the cursor location in the document. You can resize and move the image as needed. To insert a drawing, click Insert > Drawing and use the drawing tools to create your drawing.
Printing documents
To print a WordPad document, click File > Print. This will open the print window, where you can choose the printer, set print options, and preview the document before printing.
In summary, WordPad is a useful tool for basic word processing tasks. While it's not as powerful as Microsoft Word, it's more than enough for most everyday writing tasks. With its simple and intuitive user interface, WordPad is easy to use, even for beginners.
