How to make Almond Bread

Making homemade bread is one of the most satisfying activities in the kitchen. The aroma that spreads through the house, the feeling of seeing the dough rising and the pleasure of enjoying a warm slice are incomparable. Today, we're going to learn how to make delicious and healthy almond bread.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of raw almonds
  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups white all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 1/4 cups of warm water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg

Almond Preparation:

Before you start preparing the bread, you need to prepare the almonds. Place them in a pan with enough water to cover them and let it boil for a few minutes. Then drain the water and remove the skin from the almonds. After peeling, place them in a preheated oven at 180ºC for about 10 minutes, or until lightly toasted. Remove from the oven and let cool. Then chop the almonds into small pieces.

Dough Preparation:

In a large bowl, combine the flours, sugar, yeast and salt. Make a hole in the center and add the warm water, oil and egg. Mix well with a wooden spoon until all ingredients are well incorporated and begin to form a dough. Add the chopped almonds and continue to mix until they are evenly distributed in the dough.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour, one tablespoon at a time. If it's too dry, add more water, one tablespoon at a time.

Fermentation:

Place the dough in a large oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Forming the Bread:

Once the dough has risen, remove it from the bowl and lightly knead it to remove any air. Form the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover again with the damp cloth and let rise for another 30 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size again.

Baking the Bread:

Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Bake the bread for about 35-40 minutes, or until it is golden brown and makes a hollow sound when tapped lightly on the bottom. Remove from oven and cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
