Beetroot Bread Recipe

A bakery kitchen can be a magical place, where simple ingredients transform into delicious and enticing creations. One such creation is beetroot bread. This bread, with its vibrant color and unique flavor, is a wonderful way to add a pop of color and nutrition to your baking routine. Beetroot not only adds a vibrant color to the bread, it also adds an earthy, sweet flavor that perfectly complements the rich, yeasty flavor of the bread.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium beet (about 200g)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 3 cups of wheat flour
  • 1 cup of warm water

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Wrap the beets in aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour, or until tender. Let cool, then peel and grate finely.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Add grated beets and mix well. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the warm water and oil. Mix with a wooden spoon or your hands until the dough begins to form.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean dishtowel and let it rest for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Once the dough has risen, punch it to remove the air. Knead the dough for another minute, then shape it into a loaf. Place the bread on a greased baking sheet, cover again and let rest for another 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 190°C. Bake the bread for about 30 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Benefits of Beetroot:

Beetroot is rich in nutrients such as fiber, vitamin C, magnesium and folate. It also contains nitrates, which can help lower blood pressure and improve heart health. Additionally, beets are high in antioxidants, which can help protect the body from free radical damage.

In addition to being healthy, beets also add a delicious flavor and vibrant color to bread. The earthy, sweet flavor of the beetroot perfectly complements the rich, yeasty flavor of the bread, making it a delicious addition to your baking routine.

So the next time you want to try something new in the kitchen, why not try making beetroot bread? It's a delicious and nutritious way to add some color and flavor to your table.
