One of the most essential parts of learning a new language is understanding how to talk about the weather and the seasons. In German, this is no different. 1. Frühling (Spring)

The first season of the year is spring, or "Frühling" in German. This season is associated with rebirth, the blossoming of flowers and rising temperatures. Here are some words you might find helpful in describing spring:

  • Die Blume (Flower)
  • Der Regen (Rain)
  • Das Vogelgezwitscher (Song of the birds)

A phrase you could use is "Im Frühling blühen die Blumen" (In spring, the flowers bloom).

2. Sommer (Summer)

The next season is summer, or "Sommer". Summer is characterized by heat, long days and vacations for many people. Here are some words related to summer:

  • Die Sonne (Sun)
  • Der Strand (Beach)
  • Das Eis (Ice Cream)

A common phrase is "Im Sommer gehen wir an den Strand" (In the summer, we go to the beach).

3. Herbst (Autumn)

Autumn, or "Herbst", is the season of falling leaves and cooler temperatures. Here are some words associated with autumn:

  • Das Laub (Leaves)
  • Der Wind
  • Die Ernte (Harvest)

A phrase you could use is "Im Herbst fallen die Blätter" (In autumn, the leaves fall).

4. Winter (Winter)

Finally, we have winter, or "Winter". Winter is the season of cold, snow and holiday season. Here are some words related to winter:

  • Der Schnee (Snow)
  • Die Kälte (Cold)
  • Das Weihnachten (Christmas)

A phrase you could use is "Im Winter schneit es oft" (In winter, it snows often).
