3.27. Regulatory Norms (NRs) for Occupational Safety: NR 28 - Inspection and Penalties

The Regulatory Norm 28, better known as NR 28, is one of the main norms that govern work safety in Brazil. This norm is responsible for defining the guidelines for the inspection and application of penalties in case of non-compliance with work safety standards.

1. Inspection

Infringements are classified into four categories: light, medium, serious and extremely serious. Minor violations are those that do not present an immediate risk to the health or safety of workers, while very serious violations are those that can cause serious or even fatal accidents.

Fines for minor infractions can range from R$670.89 to R$6,708.88, while fines for very serious infractions can reach R$6,708.88 per worker directly exposed to risk. In addition, in case of recidivism, embarrassment or resistance to inspection, the fine can be doubled.

NR 28 is extremely important to ensure work safety. It serves as a guide for companies, helping them to understand what is needed to ensure the safety of their workers.
