Work safety is a fundamental aspect in any professional environment. It is essential to know and understand the Regulatory Norms (NRs) that guide safety practices in different work situations. In this context, NR 12 - Machinery and Equipment, is one of the most important and comprehensive regulatory standards.

The main objective of NR 12 is to ensure that workers can operate machinery and equipment safely, minimizing the risk of accidents. This standard establishes minimum requirements for the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases in the design and use phases of machinery and equipment, as well as in their manufacture, importation, commercialization, exhibition and transfer in any capacity.

To better understand NR 12, it is important to divide its main points into three categories: protection measures, work organization measures, and administration and training measures.

Protection Measures

Protection measures are actions that must be taken to ensure the safety of the machine or equipment operator. This includes the installation of safety devices that prevent accidents, such as physical barriers that prevent access to moving parts of the machine, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

NR 12 also establishes that machines and equipment must be designed and manufactured in such a way that all their parts and components can be cleaned, lubricated, adjusted and repaired without the operator taking any risks. In addition, the norm determines that machines and equipment must be designed in order to avoid the emission of radiation, vibrations, noise, heat and other factors that may cause damage to the health of workers.

Work Organization Measures

Work organization measures refer to the way work is planned and performed. This includes defining work and safety procedures, organizing the workplace and managing working time.

NR 12 stipulates that workers must receive specific training for the safe operation of machinery and equipment. This training must be delivered by qualified professionals and must include both theory and practice. In addition, the standard determines that workers must be supervised by qualified professionals during the operation of machines and equipment.

Management and Training Measures

Administration and training measures are actions aimed at ensuring that workers are properly prepared to operate machinery and equipment safely. This includes conducting periodic training and keeping records of that training.

NR 12 establishes that training must be carried out whenever significant changes occur in the facilities and in the operation of machines or changes in methods, processes and work organization. In addition, the standard determines that training must be carried out periodically and whenever any situation occurs that may pose a risk to workers.

In summary, NR 12 is an extensive and detailed standard that covers a wide range of situations related to the operation of machinery and equipment. Its main objective is to guarantee the safety and health of workers, minimizing the risks of accidents and occupational diseases. Therefore, it is essential that all professionals involved in the operation of machinery and equipment have a thorough knowledge of this standard.

Now answer the exercise about the content:

You missed! Try again.

The main purpose of NR 12 is to guarantee the safety and health of workers operating machinery and equipment. The three main categories it establishes are: protective measures (e.g., safety devices), work organization measures (e.g., specific training), and administration and training measures (e.g., periodical training and record keeping). These measures collectively aim to minimize accidents and occupational diseases.
