Occupational Safety is an area that has a set of norms, laws and regulations that aim to protect the physical integrity of the worker, guaranteeing safe and healthy working conditions. Among these norms, the Regulatory Norms (NRs) are extremely important and must be strictly observed by companies. In this text, we will address NR 2 - Prior Inspection.

NR 2 is a rule that establishes the obligation of prior inspection in any new establishment, before starting its activities, or in existing establishments that undergo significant changes in their facilities. This inspection aims to verify that the workplace complies with occupational safety and health standards.

According to NR 2, prior inspection is carried out by labor inspectors, who are professionals trained to assess working conditions and identify possible risks to worker health and safety. These professionals are responsible for issuing the Installation Approval Certificate (CAI), a document that proves that the establishment is able to start its activities.

NR 2 establishes that the prior inspection must be requested by the employer, who must provide all the information necessary to carry out the inspection. In addition, the standard determines that the inspection must be carried out in all areas of the establishment, including production areas, storage, common areas and sanitary facilities.

In the prior inspection, labor inspectors assess various aspects related to safety and health at work, such as the existence of individual and collective protection equipment, the adequacy of electrical installations, the existence of fire fighting systems, the organization of the work environment, among others.

If irregularities are identified during the prior inspection, the labor inspector can determine the adoption of corrective measures and, in more serious cases, can even interdict the establishment, prohibiting the start of activities until the irregularities are corrected.

It is important to note that NR 2 is a mandatory standard for all companies, regardless of their size or the segment in which they operate. Failure to comply with NR 2 can result in penalties for the company, such as fines and even banning the establishment.

Therefore, NR 2 is an essential tool to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Through prior inspection, it is possible to identify and correct possible risks to the health and safety of the worker, contributing to the prevention of accidents at work and occupational diseases.

In short, NR 2 - Preliminary Inspection is a standard that aims to ensure that establishments are in compliance with occupational health and safety standards before starting their activities. The prior inspection is carried out by labor inspectors, who assess the working conditions and issue the Installation Approval Certificate. NR 2 is mandatory for all companies and non-compliance may result in penalties.
