The Japanese alphabet is made up of three different writing systems: Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana. In this section, we will focus on Hiragana, and more specifically on food vocabulary. Hiragana is the first writing system that students of Japanese learn and is used to write grammatical particles, native Japanese words that do not have a corresponding kanji, and words that are most commonly written in hiragana.
