Introduction to ENEM and Writing
The National Secondary Education Examination (ENEM) is a test applied annually by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP), an autarchy linked to the Ministry of Education of Brazil. Created in 1998, the ENEM aims to evaluate student performance at the end of basic schooling and is used as a selection criterion for admission to various public and private universities in the country.
ENEM format
The ENEM consists of four objective tests, with 45 questions each, and an essay. The areas of knowledge evaluated are: Human Sciences, Natural Sciences, Languages and Codes and Mathematics. The writing, which is the focus of this text, is a crucial component of the exam and can determine the candidate's pass or fail.
The importance of writing in ENEM
The ENEM essay is one of the most important parts of the exam. It has the potential to boost the candidate's final grade, as it can be worth up to 1000 points, the equivalent of one of the objective tests. In addition, writing is one of the tie-breaking criteria when selecting university vacancies.
The subject of the essay is always a current and relevant subject, which requires the candidate to have general knowledge, ability to argue, clarity, cohesion and coherence in writing. In addition, it is necessary to respect the cultural norms of the Portuguese language and present an intervention proposal for the problem presented.
How to prepare for the ENEM Writing
The preparation for writing the ENEM must be constant and focused. It is important that the candidate is up to date on the main current issues, reads and writes frequently, and practices argumentation and essay writing. In addition, it is crucial to understand the structure of the ENEM essay, which must be organized into five paragraphs: introduction, three development paragraphs and conclusion.
In summary, the ENEM essay is a fundamental part of the exam and requires preparation and dedication. Through constant practice, reading and studying the correction criteria, the candidate can achieve a good grade and increase his chances of getting into the desired university.
