How to make yam bread
Yam bread is a healthy and delicious alternative for those who want to change their menu. Rich in nutrients and fiber, this bread is easy to make and can be an excellent option for breakfast or an afternoon snack. In this article, you'll learn how to make tasty and nutritious yam bread.
Ingredients
- 500g of yam
- 1kg of wheat flour
- 30g of fresh yeast
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 200ml of water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Method of preparation
To start, peel the yam and cut it into small pieces. Then cook the yam in a pot of water until it is very soft.
While the yams are cooking, mix the yeast and sugar in a large bowl. Add the warm water to the mixture and let it sit for about 10 minutes, until the yeast is activated and the mixture begins to foam.
When the yam is cooked, drain the water and mash it with a fork or a potato masher until you get a smooth puree. Add the yam puree to the yeast and sugar mixture and mix well.
Add the salt and oil to the mixture and stir again. Then start adding the wheat flour little by little, stirring constantly, until the dough starts to come off your hands. If necessary, add more flour.
Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic. Then form a ball with the dough and place it in a large bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean tea towel and let the dough rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, knead it again for a few minutes to remove the air. Then divide the dough into two equal parts and model each of them into a bread. Place the buns in a greased baking dish and let them rest for another 30 minutes, or until they have risen again.
Preheat the oven to 180°C. When the buns are done, place them in the oven and bake for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until they are golden brown and make a hollow sound when tapped on the underside.
Allow the buns to cool completely before slicing them. They can be stored in a plastic bag or airtight container for up to 3 days.
Tips and Variations
If you prefer, you can add herbs, grated cheese, or seeds to the dough to give your yam bread some extra flavor. In addition, this recipe can also be used to make individual rolls or baguettes.
