How to make semolina bread

Semolina is a type of flour often used in Italian cuisine, especially in pasta. But did you know that it can also be used to make bread? Semolina bread has a soft texture and a unique, delicious flavor. Here is a step by step guide on how to make semolina bread at home.

Ingredients:

  • 500g semolina
  • 500g wheat flour
  • 20g of salt
  • 10g of sugar
  • 15g dry yeast
  • 600ml of warm water
  • 60ml of olive oil

Preparation:

1. Start by mixing the semolina, flour, salt and sugar together in a large bowl. Make a hole in the center and add the yeast. Pour in half the warm water and let the yeast dissolve for a few minutes.

2. Once the yeast has dissolved, start mixing the dry ingredients with the water, adding the rest of the water little by little. Continue mixing until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water. If it's too sticky, add a little more flour.

3. When the dough is well mixed, add the olive oil and continue kneading. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

4. Place the dough in a large bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 2 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size.

5. After the dough has risen, knead it again for a few minutes to remove air. Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape each into a round loaf. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a damp cloth and let rest for another 30 minutes.

6. While the buns are resting, preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. When the buns are ready to bake, make a few cuts in the surface with a sharp knife and sprinkle some semolina on top.

7. Bake the buns in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and make a hollow sound when tapped on the bottom. Let the buns cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Tips:

- Semolina gives bread a nice texture and unique flavor. However, if you cannot find semolina, you can substitute it with wheat flour.

- Baking time may vary depending on your oven, so keep an eye on the bread to make sure it's not burning.

- This bread is perfect for sandwiches or to serve with soups and stews.

With these steps and tips, you can make delicious semolina bread at home. Not only is it a great way to try new flavors, it's also a rewarding way to make your own bread. So why not give it a try and see for yourself how easy and fun it is to make semolina bread?
