The Mojito is a classic Cuban drink that has conquered palates around the world with its refreshing and unique taste. Its name derives from the term "mojadito" which in Spanish means "a little wet". The combination of rum, mint, lime, sugar and sparkling water is perfect for hot days, but it's also a great option for any occasion. Here, we will detail step by step how to make a perfect Mojito.

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml of white rum
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 10 mint leaves
  • Sparkling water (enough to top off the glass)
  • Ice to taste

Utensils needed:

  • A tall glass (preferably glass)
  • A puncher
  • A knife
  • A long spoon

Preparation:

First, cut the lemon into four parts. Put three of these parts in the glass, along with the sugar. With the punch, crush the lemon well to extract the juice and mix it with the sugar. This process is called "macerating" and is essential for the lemon juice to mix with the sugar, forming a tasty base for our Mojito.

Next, add the mint leaves. But beware: mint should not be macerated together with lemon and sugar. It should only be pressed lightly against the bottom and sides of the cup with the tamper. This is enough to release the mint aroma without breaking the leaves and preventing them from releasing a bitter taste.

Next, add the rum. White rum is the traditional choice for the Mojito, but you can also experiment with other types of rum if you prefer. The default measure is 50 ml, but you can adjust it to your liking.

The next step is to add the ice. The ideal is to use crushed ice, as it mixes better with the other ingredients and helps keep the drink cold longer. But if you don't have crushed ice, you can use regular ice cubes.

Finally, top off the glass with sparkling water. The sparkling water will add that final touch of freshness and effervescence that is the Mojito's trademark. Use a long spoon to gently mix all the ingredients together from bottom to top so that the lemon, sugar and mint flavor spreads throughout the drink.

To decorate, you can use a slice of lemon and a mint leaf. Place the lemon wedge on the rim of the glass and the mint leaf on top. And ready! Your perfect Mojito is ready to be enjoyed.

A well-made Mojito is a true work of art. It takes practice and attention to detail, but the end result is worth it. So, grab your ingredients, follow these instructions, and get ready to make the best Mojito you've ever tasted. Cheers!
