1. Starting call
When you call someone, the first thing you say after they answer is "Allo". This is the French way of saying "Hello" on the phone. Then it is polite to introduce yourself with the phrase "C'est [your name]". It means "It's [your name]".
2. Requesting to speak with someone
If you need to talk to a specific person, you can ask "Est-ce que [person's name] is there?" which means "Is [person's name] there?". If the person you are looking for is not available, you can ask when they will be available with the phrase "Quand est-ce qu'il/elle sera disponible?".
3. Leaving a message
If the person you are trying to reach is not available, you may want to leave a message. To do this, you can say "Pouvez-vous lui/elle dire que j'ai appelé?" which means "Can you tell him/her that I called?".
4. Ending the call
When you finish the conversation, you can say "Au revoir" which means "Goodbye". However, a more common way to end a call in French is to say "À bientôt" which means "See you later".
