Street photography is a fascinating genre, filled with opportunities to capture remarkable images and unique moments. However, it can also be a challenge, as it requires speed, skill and, often, a little courage. Here are some tips on how to get started in street photography.

1. Know your camera

In street photography, things can change quickly, so knowing your camera well and being able to change settings quickly is essential. Practice at home or in a controlled environment before heading outside. Learn how to adjust shutter speed, aperture, and ISO without having to look at the camera.

2. Choose the right lens

While there is no "right" or "wrong" lens for street photography, many photographers prefer to use wide-angle or normal lenses (between 24mm and 50mm) because they allow you to capture more of your surroundings and are generally more discreet than telephoto lenses.

3. Use a small aperture

Using a small aperture (a large f-number like f/8 or f/11) keeps more of the frame in focus, which can be useful in street photography where you may not have time to focus precisely.

4. Be discreet

In street photography, it is important to be discreet and not draw attention to yourself. Dress simply and avoid making sudden movements or pointing the camera directly at people. Also, respect people's privacy and always ask permission before photographing someone.

5. Always be ready

Opportunities for great photos can arise at any time in street photography, so always be ready. Keep the camera on and in the correct settings, and always be aware of what's going on around you.

6. Practice patience

Sometimes the best way to get the perfect shot is to just wait. If you find an interesting setting or light, it might be worth waiting to see if something or someone interesting enters the scene.

7. Learn from the masters

Study the work of famous street photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau and Vivian Maier. See how they capture the decisive moment, how they compose their images, and how they use light and shadow effectively.

Street photography is a genre that takes practice and patience, but with time, you can learn to capture incredible moments and tell powerful stories through your images.
