11.5. How to Build a House Roof: Tile Installation

Building a roof is one of the most important steps in building a house. The roof protects the house from rain, sun, wind and other elements. Installing the tiles is a crucial part of this process. Let's discuss in detail how to install tiles on your roof.

Choosing Tiles

The first thing to do is choose the type of tile you want to install. There are several types of tiles available on the market, such as clay, concrete, asphalt, metal, among others. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, clay tiles are durable and fire resistant, but they are heavy and may require structural reinforcement of the roof. Asphalt shingles are lightweight and easy to install, but they are not as durable as clay shingles.

Roof Measurement

After choosing the type of tile, the next step is to measure the roof. This will help determine the amount of tiles you need to buy. To measure the roof, you can use a measuring tape to measure the length and width of the roof. Then multiply the length by the width to get the total roof area. Remember to add about 10% more to cover any losses and cuts.

Roof Preparation

Before installing the tiles, it is important to prepare the roof. This includes installing a roof covering, which is a protective layer that helps prevent leaks. Roof cladding should be installed starting at the bottom edge of the roof and working your way up towards the top. Overlaps must be at least 10 cm to ensure good leakage protection.

Installation of Tiles

To install the shingles, start at the bottom edge of the roof and work your way towards the top. Tiles should be flush with the edge of the roof and overlapped according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use nails to secure the tiles in place. Make sure the nails are securely fastened and not visible on the surface of the tiles.

To install the next row of tiles, shift the first tile so that the joint between the two tiles in the bottom row is covered. This will help prevent leaks. Continue installing shingles in this manner until the entire roof is covered.

Cumeeira Installation

The ridge is the part of the roof where two slopes meet. To install the ridge, you will need special tiles called ridge tiles. These tiles are installed over the joint where the two roof slopes meet. They are held in place with nails, just like other tiles.
