Diesel engine operation

The diesel engine is also a type of internal combustion engine, but it works differently from the gasoline engine. It uses a compression combustion process, in which air is compressed at high pressure inside the engine cylinder, increasing the temperature. Next, diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder, where it is instantly ignited by the high temperature of the compressed air. As with a gasoline engine, the resulting explosion pushes the piston down and moves the vehicle.

Differences between gasoline engine and diesel engine

One of the main differences between the two types of engines is the way in which combustion takes place. While the gasoline engine uses a mixture of air and fuel that is ignited by a spark plug, the diesel engine uses only compressed air to ignite the fuel.
