Basic Korean Course: Basic Grammar and Vocabulary

Welcome to our Basic Korean course, where you will learn essential grammar and basic vocabulary to start communicating in Korean. This course is designed for beginners who have no prior Korean language experience.

Basic Korean Grammar

Korean grammar is very different from English grammar, but don't worry, we will guide you step by step. Korean is an agglutinative language, which means that words are made up of morphemes, or units of meaning, that are attached to each other. A unique feature of Korean is the word order, which is usually Subject-Object-Verb.

In Korean, verbs are the most important part of the sentence. They are flexible and can be conjugated in a variety of ways, depending on tense, aspect, mood, and level of formality. For example, the verb "to eat" can be "먹다" (meokda) in the infinitive, "먹었다" (meogeotda) in the past, and "먹을 것이다" (meogeul geosida) in the future.

Another important aspect of Korean grammar is the honorific system. In Korean, it is important to show respect to people who are older or have a higher social status. For this, there are special forms of verbs and pronouns, and even different vocabulary words.

Basic Vocabulary

In terms of vocabulary, we'll start with the most basic words and phrases you need to introduce yourself, ask simple questions, and express your feelings and opinions. Here are some examples:

  • 안녕하세요 (Annyeonghaseyo) - Hello
  • 감사합니다 (Gamsahamnida) - Thank you
  • 저는...입니다 (Jeoneun...imnida) - I am...
  • 어디에 있습니까? (Eodie isseumnikka?) - Where is it?
  • 제가 좋아하는 것은...입니다 (Jega joahaneun geoseun...imnida) - I like...

In addition, you will learn numbers, colors, days of the week, months, seasons, food, family, and much more. The key to learning vocabulary is repetition and practice, so we suggest that you review words and phrases regularly.

Conclusion

Learning Korean can seem like a daunting task at first, but with the right approach and constant practice, you can make significant progress. This basic Korean course is the first step on your Korean learning journey. We hope you find this course useful and fun!
