1. Visual Verification

Make sure the outdoor unit is level and there are no obstructions around it. Make sure the indoor unit is properly mounted and the drain is connected correctly.

2. Energy Test

Turn on the unit and verify that it has power. The control panel should light up and you should hear a click when the thermostat calls for cooling. If unit does not turn on, check circuit breaker and electrical connections.

3. Air Flow Test

With the unit turned on, check the airflow through the vents. Air should be coming out of all openings and it should be cold. If air is not coming out of all openings, there may be a problem with the duct or fan. If the air isn't cool, there could be a problem with the refrigerant or compressor.

4. Noise Test

Let the system run for about 15 to 20 minutes, then check the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. It must be significantly cooler than the air entering the system. If there is not a significant difference in temperature, there may be a problem with the cooling system.

Check for refrigerant leaks around compressor and refrigerant line connections. If you notice any condensation or excessive moisture, there may be a leak that needs to be repaired.

7. Shutdown Test

Finally, test the system shutdown. When the thermostat reaches the desired temperature, the system should automatically shut off. If it continues to run, there may be a problem with the thermostat or system control.
