Course Description

Knowing what to do in an emergency can turn fear into action. This free online first aid course helps you build practical, real-world skills for responding calmly and effectively when someone is injured or suddenly unwell. You will learn how to assess a casualty, choose the right next step, and protect both the person in need and yourself while help is on the way.

Through clear demonstrations and scenario-based practice, you will strengthen your ability to recognize time-critical warning signs and respond appropriately. The training covers key situations where early action matters most, including how to use an AED (defibrillator), what to do during a seizure, and how to spot common signs of stroke. You will also explore diabetic emergencies, heat-related illness, and suspected poisoning, so you can respond with informed urgency rather than uncertainty.

Injuries are just as important as illnesses, and this course helps you think safely under pressure. You will learn how to approach possible spinal injury, how to respond to fractures, and how to make decisions that avoid causing further harm while waiting for emergency services. The focus is on what a bystander can realistically do in the moment: providing immediate care, preventing deterioration, and supporting recovery until professionals arrive.

A major part of the course is dedicated to babies and young children, where quick decisions can be especially stressful. You will gain confidence in responding to choking, drowning, burns and scalds, fever, shock, allergic reactions, seizures, suspected dislocations, and possible ingestion of something poisonous. You will also learn how and when to use the recovery position for a baby and what to do if a child is not responding.

By the end, you will be better prepared for emergencies at home, at work, or in public spaces. Whether you want essential health and safety knowledge, a confidence boost for caregiving, or career-ready first aid awareness, this course equips you to act decisively when every minute counts.
