Course Description

Knowing what to do in the first minutes of an emergency can protect a life, reduce complications, and bring calm to a chaotic moment. This free online course helps you build practical first-aid confidence for situations that can happen at home, at work, at school, or in public. You will learn how to assess a scene, make safe decisions quickly, and choose the right next step when every second matters.

Through real-life style scenarios, you will practice how to respond to common injuries and medical emergencies: head bumps and head injuries, heavy bleeding, suspected broken bones, sprains and strains, and situations where someone collapses. You will also develop a clear approach for people who are unresponsive, including how to act when they are breathing versus when they are not, and how to support emergency services with useful information.

The course guides you through lifesaving actions such as CPR basics and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), including what to do immediately after a shock is delivered. You will also learn supportive care for critical conditions like hypothermia, severe allergic reactions, asthma attacks, seizures, stroke, heart attack, meningitis warning signs, and diabetic emergencies. The goal is not to replace medical professionals, but to help you take the safest, most effective first steps until help arrives.

Short exercises reinforce decision-making so you can remember what to do under pressure. By the end, you will be better prepared to recognize danger signs, reduce risk, and respond with competence and kindness—skills that are valuable for parents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, and anyone who wants to be ready to help.
