Course Description

Want to sound good on electric guitar without feeling lost on day one? This free online course guides you from the first contact with the instrument to the skills that make guitar playing feel musical: steady rhythm, clean chords, accurate notes, expressive lead technique and a tone you can actually be proud of. You will start by getting comfortable with the guitar itself, learning what each part does and how to keep your instrument in tune, including practical approaches to relative tuning when you are away from an electronic tuner.

From there, the focus moves to the hands. You will develop control through plucking and strumming techniques that improve timing, dynamics and consistency, so chord changes start to feel natural. As you practice open chords, power chords and barre shapes, you will learn how to place your fingers for a clean sound and how to move shapes up the neck to unlock more songs with less memorization. Along the way you will connect chords to the major scale, minor sounds and chord extensions, giving you a clearer sense of why progressions work instead of just copying shapes.

Lead guitar becomes much easier when the fretboard stops looking random. This course helps you recognize notes on the neck, work with the chromatic scale and octaves, and build confidence using major, minor and pentatonic scales for riffs and solos. You will also learn how to turn scale knowledge into musical lines through phrasing ideas and targeted exercises that develop speed and clarity without sacrificing control.

To add expression, you will practice essential electric-guitar techniques such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, string bending and vibrato, plus harmonics and two-handed tapping for modern textures. Tone is treated as part of the skill set too: you will explore how to achieve a fuller sound and how setup choices and playing approach influence what the audience hears. By the end, you will have a solid technical base and a practical routine that supports rhythm playing, improvisation and continued progress.
