Norma Regulamentadora 8, or NR 8, is one of the main guidelines that regulate work safety in Brazil, focusing specifically on buildings. This standard establishes minimum technical requirements that must be observed in buildings, to guarantee the safety and comfort of those who work in them.

NR 8 is one of the most important standards in the field of work safety, as most workers spend a large part of their time in buildings. Therefore, it is essential that these environments are safe and suitable for carrying out work activities.

This standard applies to all buildings, whether commercial, industrial or residential, and covers from project design to maintenance and eventual demolition of the building. It establishes guidelines for the construction, renovation, expansion, maintenance and demolition of buildings, always aiming at the safety and well-being of workers.

NR 8 stipulates that all buildings must be designed and constructed to ensure the safety and comfort of their occupants. This includes ensuring that the building is sturdy and stable, that it has adequate electrical and plumbing installations, that it has sufficient ventilation and lighting, and that it has properly signposted and unobstructed emergency exits.

In addition, the standard also establishes requirements for the maintenance of buildings. It states that all buildings must be periodically inspected and maintained to ensure they remain safe and fit for use. This includes maintaining electrical and plumbing installations, cleaning and maintaining ventilation and lighting systems, and regularly checking emergency exits.

Another important point of NR 8 is the requirement that all buildings have an Emergency Plan. This plan should include procedures for evacuating the building in an emergency, identifying and training an emergency team, and conducting periodic training to ensure that all building occupants know how to act in an emergency.
