Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a practical and effective approach to personal change. It offers tools and techniques to understand how thinking can influence our behavior and thus help us achieve our goals. In order to fully understand NLP, it is crucial to know its basic principles, also known as basic NLP assumptions. These assumptions form the basis of NLP and are held to be true in all interactions. Here are some of the most important ones:

1. The Map is not the Territory: This is one of the most fundamental assumptions of NLP. It means that we all have our own unique representation of the world, based on our personal experiences and perceptions. We do not see the world as it is, but as we perceive it through our senses and mental processes. So our "reality" is actually a mental map of the real world, not the real territory itself. This principle reminds us to respect the worldviews of others, as each of us has a unique perspective.

2. Mind and body are parts of the same system: This assumption is based on the idea that mind and body are intrinsically linked and influence each other. This means that changes in the body can affect the mind and vice versa. For example, if you are feeling anxious (a mental response), you may experience physical symptoms such as a racing heart or excessive sweating. Likewise, if you exercise regularly (a physical change), you may experience mental benefits such as better mood and greater mental clarity.

3. The meaning of communication is the response you get: This assumption suggests that communication is not just about what you say, but also about how it is received by the other. If the response you receive is not what you expected, it indicates that your communication was not effective. Rather than blaming the other for not understanding, NLP encourages you to change your approach to communication.

4. People have all the resources they need to make changes: NLP believes that we all have the inner resources needed to make changes in our lives. These resources may include skills, knowledge, experiences, values, beliefs, etc. Sometimes these resources may be inaccessible or underused, but NLP offers techniques for accessing and utilizing these resources effectively.

5. Choice is better than no choice: This NLP assumption suggests that having more options is always better. When we have several options, we have the freedom to choose the one that best suits us. NLP helps us broaden our options by exploring different perspectives and possibilities.

6. People always make the best choice available to them at the time: This NLP assumption is based on the idea that we all make choices based on our options and resources available at the time. Even though a choice may seem irrational or harmful to others, to the person making it, it is the best possible choice at that time.

These are just some of the basic assumptions of NLP. They provide a framework for understanding how NLP works and how it can be used to facilitate personal change. By applying these principles, we can improve our communication, increase our self-awareness, and reach our goals more effectively.
