Korean pop culture, also known as Hallyu, has taken the world by storm. Korean movies and series, called K-dramas, are an important part of this wave. When learning Korean, watching these movies and series can be a fun and effective way to improve your language skills. In this chapter of our e-book, we are going to explore the vocabulary of movies and series in Korean.

For starters, the word for "movie" in Korean is 영화 (yeonghwa) and "TV series" is 텔레비전 시리즈 (tellebijeon sirijeu). If you are watching a drama, it is called 드라마 (deurama), while a comedy is called 코미디 (komidi).

Characters in movies and series are called 캐릭터 (kaerigteo). The protagonist, or main character, is called 주인공 (ju-ingong), while the antagonist or villain is called 악당 (akdang). A secondary character is called 조연 (joyeon).

When it comes to film and series genres, a thriller is called 스릴러 (seurilleo), an action film is 액션 영화 (aeksyeon yeonghwa), a Romance movie is 로맨스 영화 (romaenseu yeonghwa), and a horror movie is 공포 영화 (gongpo yeonghwa).

In addition, it is useful to know some common expressions used in movies and series. For example, "Let the show begin" is 공연이 시작되었습니다 (gong-yeoni sijag-doe-ess-seubnida), "Game over" is 게임 오버 ( geim obeo), and "They lived happily ever after" is 그들은 영원히 행복하게 살았다 (geudeul-eun yeong-wonhi haengbokhage sal-assda).

Dialogues in movies and series are also a great way to learn everyday language. For example, the expression "What's going on?" is 무슨 일이야? (museun iriya?), "I love you" is 사랑해 (saranghae), and "Let's go" is 가자 (girl).

In addition, you can find words and expressions related to the filming process. For example, "director" is 감독 (gamdok), "script" is 시나리오 (sinario), "camera" is 카메라 (kamera) , and "action" is 액션 (aeksyeon).

Finally, watching Korean movies and TV series with subtitles can be a great way to learn Korean. The word for "subtitle" in Korean is 자막 (jamak). Also, you can say "I watch movies with subtitles" like 나는 자막과 함께 영화를 봅니다 (naneun jamakgwa hamkke yeonghwareul bobnida).

By mastering this vocabulary, watching movies and series in Korean can become a more enriching and fun experience. Also, it can help you better understand Korean culture and improve your language skills. So grab the popcorn and enjoy your next K-drama!
