Chapter 6: Personal Introduction in Korean

Welcome to chapter 6 of our entry-level Korean course. In this chapter, we will learn about how to introduce yourself in Korean. Personal introduction is a crucial part of any social interaction, especially in a new culture and language. Let's get started!

1. Best regards

Before introducing yourself, it's important to know how to greet people in Korean. The most common way to say "Hello" is "안녕하세요" (Annyeonghaseyo). If it's someone you know well or someone younger, you can just say "안녕" (Annyeong).

2. Introducing Yourself

To introduce yourself in Korean, you can say "저는 [your name]입니다" (Jeoneun [your name]-imnida), which means "I am [your name]". For example, if your name is Ana, you would say "저는 Ana입니다".

3. Age

In Korean, age is often asked during introductions as it is an important part of Korean etiquette. You can say "제 나이는 [your age]살입니다" (Je naineun [your age] sal-imnida), which means "I am [your age] years old". For example, if you are 25 years old, you would say "제 나이는 25살입니다".

4. Profession

Another common piece of information to share during introductions is your profession. To say your profession, you can say "저는 [your profession]입니다" (Jeoneun [your profession]-imnida). For example, if you are a student, you would say "저는 학생입니다" (Jeoneun haksaeng-imnida), which means "I am a student".

To say your nationality in Korean, you can say "저는 [your nationality] 사람입니다" (Jeoneun [your nationality] saram-imnida). For example, if you are Brazilian, you would say "저는 브라질 사람입니다" (Jeoneun Beurajil saram-imnida), which means "I am Brazilian".

6. Ending the presentation

To conclude your presentation in Korean, you can say "잘 부탁드립니다" (Jal butakdeurimnida), which is an expression of courtesy that can be translated as "Please be kind to me" or "Please take care of me".

Done! Now you know how to introduce yourself in Korean. Remember that practice makes perfect, so keep practicing these phrases until you feel comfortable with them. In the next chapter, we'll learn about basic Korean grammar. Until then!

안녕히 계세요! (Annyeonghi gyeseyo! - Farewell)

We hope this chapter has been helpful for you to start introducing yourself in Korean. Keep practicing and don't forget to review the previous chapters to reinforce what you've already learned. See you in the next chapter!
