1. Wie heißt du? (What's your name?)
The first question you are likely to ask in German is "Wie heißt du?". This is a simple way to ask someone's name. The answer would be "Ich heiße..." followed by your name.
2. Wie geht es dir? (How are you?)
This is the German way of asking "How are you?". The most common response is "Mir geht es gut" (I'm fine).
3. Woher kommst du? (Where are you from?)
If you want to know where someone is from, you would ask "Woher kommst du?". The answer would be "Ich komme aus..." followed by the name of the country or city.
4. Was machst du beruflich? (What do you do?)
This question is used to ask someone what they do for a living. The answer would be "Ich bin..." followed by the profession.
5. Wie alt bist du? (How old are you?)
This is the way to ask someone's age in German. The answer would be "Ich bin..." followed by age.
6. Hast du Geschwister? (Do you have siblings?)
If you want to ask if someone has siblings, you would ask "Hast du Geschwister?". The answer would be "Ja, ich habe..." if the person has siblings, or "Nein, ich habe keine Geschwister" if they don't.
7. Was ist deine Lieblingsfarbe? (What's your favorite color?)
This question is used to ask someone's favorite color. The answer would be "Meine Lieblingsfarbe ist..." followed by the color.
8. Was ist dein Lieblingsessen? (What's your favorite food?)
If you want to know what someone's favorite food is, ask "Was ist dein Lieblingsessen?". The answer would be "Mein Lieblingsessen ist..." followed by the name of the food.
9. Hast du Haustiere? (Do you have pets?)
This question is used to ask if someone has pets. The answer would be "Ja, ich habe..." if the person has pets, or "Nein, ich habe keine Haustiere" if they don't.
10. Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?)
If you want to ask where someone lives, ask "Wo wohnst du?". The answer would be "Ich wohne in..." followed by the name of the city or country.
11. Was sind deine Hobbys? (What are your hobbies?)
This question is used to ask what someone's hobbies are. The answer would be "Meine Hobbys sind..." followed by the hobbies.
12. Wie spät ist es? (What time is it?)
If you want to ask the time in German, ask "Wie spät ist es?". The answer would be the current time.
13. Wo ist die Toilette? (Where is the bathroom?)
This is a very useful question to ask when you are visiting a German speaking country. The answer will point you in the direction of the bathroom.
14. Können Sie mir helfen? (Can you help me?)
If you need help, you can ask "Können Sie mir helfen?". The answer would be "Ja, ich kann Ihnen helfen" if the person can help, or "Nein, ich kann Ihnen nicht helfen" if they can't.
15. Sprechen Sie Englisch? (Do you speak English?)
If you need to ask if someone speaks English, ask "Sprechen Sie Englisch?". The response would be "Ja, ich spreche Englisch" if the person speaks English, or "Nein, ich spreche kein Englisch" if they don't.
16. Wie viel kostet das? (How much does it cost?)
If you want to ask the price of something, ask "Wie viel kostet das?". The answer would be the price of the item.
17. Wo kann ich ein Taxi finden? (Where can I find a taxi?)
This question is useful if you need to get a taxi. The answer will indicate where you can find a taxi.
18. Kann ich mit Karte bezahlen? (Can I pay by card?)
If you want to ask if you can pay by card, ask "Kann ich mit Karte bezahlen?". The answer would be "Ja, Sie können mit Karte bezahlen" if you can pay by card, or "Nein, Sie können nicht mit Karte bezahlen" if you can't.
19. Wo ist der nächste Supermarkt? (Where is the nearest supermarket?)
If you need to find a supermarket, ask "Wo ist der nächste Supermarkt?". The answer will direct you to the nearest supermarket.
